Cross Border Trucking

You’ve got freight that needs to cross the border. Maybe it landed at the Port of Houston heading south. Maybe it came off a rail ramp bound for a maquiladora in Monterrey. Either way, the hard part isn’t the miles. It’s the border.

Bravo Motor Carriers moves containers from Houston to the U.S.-Mexico border through Laredo, McAllen, and Brownsville. Our trucks. Our drivers. We pick up at the port or rail ramp, haul it to the crossing, and coordinate the Mexican carrier on the other side so you’re not making calls at 6 AM wondering where your box is.

Our Cross Border Trucking Services

Here’s what we run on the Houston-to-border corridor:

Cross Border Shipping Services 5

Port-to-Border Container Moves

Your box clears the terminal at Bayport or Barbours Cut and we put it on a truck headed south. Laredo, McAllen, or Brownsville. We match the route to the crossing that makes the most sense for your freight and your timeline.

Cross Border Shipping Services 6

Rail-to-Border Container Moves

Containers coming off BNSF or UP ramps in Houston that need to get to the border. Same idea. We pull it off the rail and run it south. No third carrier in between.

Cross Border Shipping Services 7

Northbound Border Pickup

Freight coming into the U.S. from Mexico that needs to move from a border facility to Houston. Warehouse delivery, rail ramp drop, port terminal — wherever it’s going next, we bring it up.

Cross Border Shipping Services 8

Cross-Dock and Transload Support

Containers that need to break bulk at the border before crossing. We deliver to cross-dock facilities in Laredo, McAllen, or Brownsville and coordinate the timing with your warehouse and your Mexican logistics partner.

What Is Cross Border Trucking?

Cross border shipping is moving freight between two countries by ground. For us, that means the U.S. and Mexico. A container shows up in Houston — off a vessel, off a train, out of a warehouse — and it needs to get to the Mexican border for crossing.

Sounds simple. It’s not.

The border isn’t just a line on a map. It’s a web of customs rules, broker coordination, bridge schedules, and security checks that change depending on which crossing you use. Laredo runs different from McAllen. McAllen runs different from Brownsville. The paperwork is different. The wait times are different. The Mexican carrier options on the other side are different.

Then there’s the compliance piece. Is the freight bonded? Does it need a T&E or IT filing? Is the Mexican customs broker ready to receive? Has anyone checked whether the bridge you picked is even open for commercial traffic that day?

A lot of carriers will haul your container to the border. Fewer will make sure everything is lined up when it gets there. That’s the gap we fill.

Border Crossings and Coverage

We don’t dabble on this corridor. We run it.

Laredo is the busiest commercial crossing on the U.S.-Mexico border. More congestion, more bridge backups, more moving parts. Our drivers know World Trade Bridge and Colombia Bridge, and we time arrivals around traffic patterns. Showing up at the wrong time in Laredo costs you half a day.

McAllen is the route for freight heading to Monterrey and northeast Mexico. We run regular loads through the Pharr-Reynosa crossing and coordinate with Mexican carriers on the south side.

Brownsville handles freight moving into the Matamoros industrial zone. Smaller volumes, different bridge rules. We run it when the routing makes sense.

Three crossings. Three operations. We know all of them.

Why Shippers Choose Us

Bravo Motor Carriers is the container drayage company shippers turn to when freight has to move clean from port to border without handoffs.

We own the trucks

The chassis too. No broker layer, no load board, no subcontractor showing up with someone else’s equipment. The driver who picks up your container works for us. Period.

TWIC cards Icon

TWIC cards on every driver.

Not some of them. All of them. When a load needs to move, we don’t scramble for a credentialed guy who might be available.
Bonded carrier icon

Bonded carrier

Containers under CBP control move under our bond, on our authority. T&E, IT — we carry the credentials.
Connected network Icon

Connected network

Port terminals, rail ramps, and the border corridor through Laredo, McAllen, and Brownsville all run through one carrier. Your freight doesn’t get handed off between companies to get where it’s going.

Daily operations.

We don’t show up when a load pops up. Our trucks are running Houston’s terminals and ramps every day. The drivers know the gates, the appointment systems, and the timing because they live in it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cross Border Trucking

Cross Border Basics

What is cross border shipping?
It’s moving freight by truck between the U.S. and Mexico. For us that means hauling containers from Houston down to border crossings at Laredo, McAllen, or Brownsville — and bringing loads north from the border back to Houston.
Why is cross border freight more complex than a normal truck move?
Because there’s a border in the middle. Customs on both sides, bridge schedules, different regulations depending on the crossing, and coordination with carriers in another country. A straight-line haul this is not.
Which border crossings does Bravo use?
Laredo, McAllen, and Brownsville. Each one connects to different parts of Mexico and has its own logistics. We pick the crossing based on where the freight is going and what’s moving fastest that week.
Can Bravo move freight in both directions?
Yes. Southbound from Houston to the border and northbound from the border to Houston. Port drops, rail ramps, warehouse deliveries — we handle both directions on this corridor.
Do I need a customs broker for cross border moves?
You’ll need one on the Mexican side for sure. On the U.S. side, it depends on the shipment type. If the freight is bonded or has specific CBP requirements, your broker will file the entries. We handle the truck part and coordinate with whoever is managing customs.

Working with Bravo

Does Bravo own its trucks on border runs?
Every single one. No brokering, no subbing it out. The truck that picks up your container in Houston is the same truck that delivers it to the border.
Can Bravo pick up at the port and deliver to the border?
That’s the whole point of our network. We grab the container at Bayport or Barbours Cut and drive it straight to Laredo, McAllen, or Brownsville. One pickup, one carrier, one invoice.
What about rail ramp to border?
Same thing. BNSF or UP ramp pickup in Houston, then south to the crossing. No middleman carrier between the ramp and the border.
Does Bravo coordinate with Mexican carriers?
We do. The handoff at the bridge is where a lot of loads go sideways, so we stay in contact with the receiving carrier on the south side to make sure somebody’s there when the container shows up.
How fast can I get a quote?
Give us the pickup location, container details, and which crossing or final destination in Mexico. We turn quotes around same business day.

Compliance and Bonded Freight

Can Bravo move bonded freight to the border?
Yes. We hold bonded carrier credentials and move in-bond containers to border crossings under CBP authority. T&E shipments exiting the country and IT shipments heading to border customs offices both fall under what we do.
What is a T&E shipment on a border move?
Freight that entered the U.S. at one port and is leaving through a different one — in this case, a land border crossing. The goods transit under bond and never enter U.S. commerce. We keep the custody chain intact from Houston to the bridge.
Does the crossing matter for bonded freight?
It can. Different crossings have different CBP staffing and processing times. We route bonded shipments through the crossing that gives us the best shot at a clean handoff within the compliance window.
What paperwork does Bravo handle on border moves?
On the U.S. side, we handle the carrier documentation — bills of lading, seal verification, in-bond records if the load is bonded, and delivery confirmation at the crossing. Mexican customs paperwork is on the Mexican broker’s side, but we make sure our docs are buttoned up before we hit the bridge.
What if CBP flags a container at the border?
It happens. When it does, we work with your customs broker to sort it out. Holds, exams, additional documentation — we’ve dealt with all of it at all three crossings. The key is having someone on the ground who knows the process, and we do.

Coverage and Pricing

How long does it take to get from Houston to the border?
Laredo is roughly a four to five hour drive. McAllen is a similar distance depending on the route. Brownsville is a bit farther south. Actual transit depends on traffic, bridge conditions, and whether we’re running a pre-scheduled or same-day move.
How does cross border pricing work?
It depends on the lane — which crossing, container size, special requirements like bonded status or overweight permits. We price per-move for spot freight or set up contract rates if you’re running volume on this corridor regularly.
Does Bravo handle overweight containers on border runs?
We do. Tri-axle chassis and TxDOT permits for loads that exceed standard road weight. Same equipment and permitting we use on port and rail drayage, just pointed south.
Can Bravo connect port, rail, and border moves on one bill?
That’s the play. Container comes off a vessel at Bayport, we pick it up, and it’s on a truck to Laredo by the afternoon. One carrier from port drayage or rail drayage all the way to the border crossing. No handoffs.
Does Bravo run this corridor on a regular schedule?
For shippers with steady volume, yes. We set up dedicated lanes with fixed schedules, same equipment, and locked-in pricing. Call ops to talk about what a regular run looks like for your freight.
